about

Following three full-length releases and several collaborations with labels such as Deutsche Grammophon, Oscarson and 7K!, Armenian pianist and composer Marie Awadis debuts on piano and coffee records with Luys—a suite of intimate ambient pieces assembled during the Covid-19 confinement.

Luys (Լոյս—Light in Armenian) reflects on the artist’s upbringing in Lebanon and on music as a safe space during difficult times. Through her voice, Awadis transforms moments of darkness into light, and creates a sonic experience that is both meditative and immersive. Inspired by the works of artists such as Julianna Barwick and Ana Roxanne, Awadis’ non-verbal vocals and the ethereal instrumentation blend together seamlessly, creating a sonic landscape that is both otherworldly and deeply personal.

In harmony with our label’s soft spot for intercontinental collaboration, the five-track EP features soundscapes by Argentinian musician Gastón Muñoz, whose crucial sound-design contributions add depth and warmth to the project, and it was mixed by Mississippi-based pianist, organist and composer Jameson Nathan Jones.

Luys releases digitally on the 10th of November, featuring photographs by Evgeny Ganeev, and graphic design by Sergio Díaz De Rojas.
